Piano and Music Creativity for kids and adults - Preparation for ABRSM exams

I am a composer and pianist and I give piano lessons to kids and adults of a wide range of levels!
Feel free to contact me if you are interested in learning how to play the piano or if you are curious about music theory or how to make your own music!

In my classes, my goal is to approach piano playing in a holistic way, starting with a healthy posture, but also musical expression. We will work on memory, on the dependency of each hand and finger, integrating in every lesson the music theory and singing along with exercises on rhythm (TAKADIMI system of rhythm solfege) and last but not least, creation (through improvisation and other creative tasks) which will offer you the possibility to craft and master in a deeper level your piano skills.

The structure and the material of the lesson derive from established piano methods and further music bibliography and they are adjusted to your skills, preferences, and wishes. I am always interested in transcribing some of my pupils' favorite pieces on piano according to their skills, something that often is very useful and fruitful for their progress.
In the first lesson we will talk about your interests, motivation, and goals and we will create together a personal course structure. Experience in ABRSM piano performance exams in case you are interested in achieving a grade.

Music demands patience and practice, but all these become easier when you keep your motivation alive by enjoying the process!

You will need to practice on a electric keyboard or piano at home.

About Me

Hello! I am Myrto and I am a freelancer pianist and composer from Greece based in The Hague since 2018. After completing my studies I discovered that teaching music is really fascinating for me and it is not just a second option. Sharing my knowledge and passion about music brings a real communication between teacher and pupil and this relation is inspiring and refreshing.

I started my music and piano studies at 6 years old, and later I pursued studies on music composition and computer music. My works by ensembles, soloists and orchestras in Greece, Spain, Italy, Belgium, USA and the Netherlands, while I have participated in a number of multidisciplinary projects and have collaborated with dancers, film directors, actors, painters and others. I am active both as a pianist and keyboard player performing in various and diverse music projects either as a soloist (classical and contemporary repertoire), or as a member of groups such as chamber music ensembles (classical, contemporary and pop music). I am passionate about composing, but I am also active in free improvisation in the local scene.

ABOUT TEACHING:
Teaching music, for me, offers the gift to the teacher to constantly develop as an artist and a person growing understanding, supporting, motivating, but also the gift to share the passion and knowledge of music. I truly believe that music is a language that everyone should have the access to learn and communicate with.

The structure and the material of the lesson are based on the skills, preferences, and wishes of the pupil. My pupils usually ask me to transcribe some of their favorite pieces on piano according to their skills, something that often is very useful and fruitful for their progress. Music demands patience and practice but all these become easier when you have a goal and enjoy the process.

In the first lesson, we will talk about your interests, motivation, and goals and we will create together a personal course structure.

The lessons take place mainly in English and Greek and currently also in Dutch (B1) at my location.

She is very nice and understanding teacher who support you on your piano learning process!! :)
Our son enjoyed so much a trial with Myrto! She is a very warm and smiley person, great and natural with kids! She was very patient and handled our 5y son wonderfully. It was very nice to have Myrto as she sparked so much joy and love for music. No hesitation to recommend her! In the end we opted for another teacher who spoke Russian to my son and that was an added bonus for us. Otherwise, we would be happy to continue with Myrto!
Myrto is a very kind and patient teacher. Kids are not easy to handle but she has a calming tone that makes them love her teaching from the very first time.
About Harmony Course: Students learn principles of linear harmonic continuity and guide tone lines; minor key harmony; subdominant minor; blues theory and chord progressions. Students also learn melodic rhythm, form, and melody/harmony relationship. - Stylistic Composition Courses - About Counterpoint Course: We will explore the mechanics of basic contrapuntal technique, focusing on the horizontal aspects of composition; in other words, how melodies interact with one another. The course begins with writing a simple melodic line that works with an existing melody. About Fugue Course: A fugue is a multi-voice musical form that hinges on counterpoint between voices. The pupil will compose fugues for a single instrument (most notably a piano or other keyboard instrument), or they can write them for several individual players.
The structure of the lesson is based on the pupil’s preference in music style, instrument combinations and others. We will talk about the harmony, rhythm and form while the pupil will be asked to create his/her own short works/songs. I always find fascinating to analyze music of the past (for example some of your favorite songs, instrumental works and others) in order to gain a deeper understanding of how these were created and from what musical ingredients they consist. Furthermore, integral part of this course is the understanding of the possibilities of each instrument and the combination of more than one. In this course, you can also learn how to use music notation softwares such as Finale and Musescore in order to notate your own music easily and fast.

Piano Lessons - all ages and levels - Graduated pianist with concert and teaching experience
Hello! I'm a 25-year-old pianist finishing his Master's degree in Koninklijk Conservatorium in Den Haag. I have ample experience as a teacher, and performing as a soloist, chamber musician, orchestra keyboardist, and accompanist. I have been teaching since 2018 and love working with people of all kinds of music tastes. I will adapt to your musical interests and help you accomplish your objective. On top of a piano teacher, I am a great piano coach, being able to help my students get where they want with the piano, even if they struggle with motivation to practice. I am easygoing, and I adapt to your expectations and rhythm, so we can work together in fulfilling your goals! In my lessons, you will: - Learn how to understand a score, with all the theoretical knowledge you need to approach the repertoire that you want to study. - Learn how to practice the piano. Ever tried and struggled to focus or to develop as much as you wanted? I can help you with that. - Learn to play the repertoire you want, with a step-by-step process that helps you develop more ability and security - Learn the piano technique - Learn how to enjoy music making! :) For the more medium and advanced students, I also offer: - Deep understanding of styles. I have done research on baroque and classical styles, and have studied with romantic, XXth century, and contemporary music experts, which has given me deep knowledge on how to understand the different styles of Classical Music. - Advanced practice technique. Sometimes, the more you advance in the instrument, the harder practice can become. Know how to practice difficult technical passages and musical ideas. - Sound control. Even if the sound in the piano might seem limited, it is not, it can simply be difficult to control. But it is the most important quality of a musical performance, alongside style. - Great support. I will help you find motivation and organize your practice. I also am a great support teacher. If you or your child is already studying in an institution and you want some extra help, I have always been able to help students who have found themselves improperly motivated by their main teacher, or who want help practicing. Music is fun! Let's learn together.

Piano and Music - "Every pianist should focus on being a complete and balanced musician"
"I am a pianist. I started playing the piano at the age of seven and I am passionate about music. I am fascinated by the world of pedagogy, understanding that teaching is helping to learn. I am committed to my work with dedication and enthusiasm, and I believe that motivation is the key to both teaching and learning. I want to educate in values and I am committed to the pursuit of educational quality, based on equity and excellence. I am flexible and adaptable to each person, and I like teamwork. I appreciate discipline, rigor in my work, effort, and resilience. My aim is to help students learn constructively and to help them become autonomous as soon as possible. The focus is always on the student." I structure the classes into three blocks, which I consider essential: -Technique: through exercises and studies we must develop technical ability. - Works of all styles: we learn from the great artists of all periods. -Introduction to jazz and modern music: we will create a routine to work on improvisation and develop creativity. These are the paths I propose, but each student is free to develop what he/she wishes. I also complement the classes with musical language and harmony. Every pianist should focus on being a complete and balanced musician. We must develop aural skills, sight-reading, mastery of musical language and harmony, composition, improvisation, creativity, a critical spirit, good taste in music, and above all, a passion for music.

Guitar, Mandolin, Music Theory lessons by enthusiastic tutor and performer
Enthusiastic guitar tutor and performer. I started playing classical guitar at the age of 6, and my formal musical education began at the age of 9 when I started attending a music school in Croatia. After 6 years of primary school, I continued studying classical guitar at a secondary music school in Varazdin, Croatia. During that period I received training in classical harmony, Counterpoint (polyphony), Solfeggio, Music history and gained plenty of experience in orchestral playing and choral singing. I decided to continue my musical education in Manchester where I was studying for an undergraduate degree at the Royal Northern College of Music and currently I am studying at the Royal Conservatoire in the Hague. As a performing guitarist, I have successfully participated and won prizes in a number of international competitions in the UK, Italy, Croatia, Slovenia and Bosnia and Hercegovina. Although my studies are primarily related to classical music, I am comfortable playing and performing music in a range of other styles and genres. I am also experienced with mandolin and Croatian folk instrument called tamburitza.

Piano Lessons - all ages and levels - Classical music, pop/rock, etc. - with Piano Master's graduated teacher
Hello! I am a 29 years old classical pianist with a Master's degree at the Koninklijk Conservatorium Den Haag. I have taught Piano (and also Music Education) since 2016, to both children and adults. Teaching allows me to bring my passion and enthusiasm for music to the students, and I also find it incredibly rewarding to guide and follow their musical and technical development! I am easily adaptable to the student's musical tastes and expectations/goals in music learning, and I am also very mindful of how I communicate, according to the students' ages and personalities. I can teach classical music, pop, rock, or any other style. My approach consists of giving you the necessary theoretical knowledge for what you wish to play; involving you actively in the choice of the pieces/songs you will play; setting up a long-term plan for your repertoire, so that your development is made step by step in a challenging - but achievable - way (and this way, you will feel more motivated!); giving you enjoyable and creative practicing strategies; creating rich imagery revolving around the piece - by making up a story, relating the music to emotions, etc.; and also positive feedback! Thus, my lessons will allow you to: - Learn how to read scores. -Develop your musical understanding (from notes, rhythm, and harmony, to musical taste, and emotional comprehension of the music, or dive into aesthetic principles concerning the period and style of the piece,...). -Improve, step by step, until you are able to play that piece/song that you love. -Prepare yourself for exams. -Etc. Furthermore, I organize Students' Concerts, giving you the chance to play in a fantastic grand piano, and sharing with others all the work you've done! The best thing is that it's possible for you to learn all this and have fun at the same time! Any questions, don't hesitate to contact me.

Violin, rhythm, music theory and composition lessons for beginners
Anything that is part of a fundamental understanding of music, e.g. music theory, solfège, rhythm and piano will be taught. For me it is very important that the lessons is specifically made for the students regarding content and length. If asked violin and ballett can be taught as well. In that way the necessary aspects of a well rounded musician can be built up.
