This course and a homework help court, designate to accompany a student during the school year. The course covers math and science from primary school to high school. The first part of this course is normally reserved for the revision of the student's duties. In addition any question and uncertainties are answered and explained. Then follow the cramming part to reinforce learned concepts until students become self-confident about applying techniques. At the end of the course, if the time and the situation allow, I prepare the students for their next school class. In addition to the subjects I am struggling to explain to students how to "learn to learn" so that my classes have a long lasting effect. This includes showing them how to get organized and prepare for the exams. I have over seven years of experience during which I was able to help dozens of school children improve their grades. I am also comfortable with children and young people having rather serious problems like dyscalculia, fear of school or who are seriously demotivated. For these children I try to be even more patient than usual, explaining every detail little by little in a way that is easy to understand until everything is understood. In addition to the subjects I am struggling to explain to students how to "learn to learn" so that my classes have a long lasting effect. Being trilingual, I am fluent in French, German and English at the same level. Classes can be held in any of these languages.
About my service I provide coaching for students in the area of science and mathematics. The lessons are designed to enable students to improve their understanding of the school subjects and thus their grades. The target audience are students from primary school up to high school. The lesson is usually roughly structured in three parts: - Together with the student I go over the homework, or the work that was done during the last questions are answered and facts explained. - The learned concepts are applied repeatedly to problems and exercises to fortify the understanding and help the student become more at ease with applying them. - If the time and the situations allows it, the student is prepared for his next lesson at school so that he or she will be able to follow it better. In addition to the subject matter I try to teach how to learn, which is a skill that is sadly not often taught at school. This includes, amongst others, how to organize, how to take notes, how to memorize facts and formulas and how to prepare for exams. This provides a longer lasting benefit for the student. I am also comfortable with students and pupils with rather severe difficulties such as dyscalculus (basically dyslexia for maths) and fear of school or aggravated lack of motivation. With these students I make sure to take my time, without putting them under pressure, and explain facts in simple words until they are certain to have understood them. As I am equally fluent in English, German and French, the lessons can take place in any of those languages. My experience I have around 10 years of experience giving private lessons. My youngest student was 6 years old, my oldest 47. Over the years I was able to help well over 1oo students improve their grades. At first I started giving lessons to single students but then moved on to also teach groups of up to 8 students. I am quite familiar with the syllabus of the "Ecole Internationale" here in Geneva (both Grande-Boissière and Nations) as I have had many students from there.
