This course is designed to provide students a linguistic and cultural background about the modern Greek language. During the course, we will focus on listening, reading, writing and speaking, all while providing examples from the contemporary Greek culture. Additional emphasis will be given in Grammar, Syntax and Spelling. In this way, the students, not only will enrich their vocabulary but will also learn to use it when forming grammatically correct phrases and sentences. During the class, we will experiment ourselves with different teaching methods, to find the ones that suit the needs of every student, given that every student is unique and they learn on their own way. This course offers a comprehensive introduction to linguistics, examining key areas such as phonetics, syntax, semantics, pragmatics and morphology. Relative fields include sociolinguistics, argumentation and rhetoric as well as methods of conducting research in the field of applied linguistics. Students will explore the structure, the sound, and the meaning of language, gaining insight into the ways language interact with cognition, cultural identity, and social dynamics (and many more!). Through analysis and critical discussion, this course provides foundational knowledge essential for understanding language as a complex, multifaceted human phenomenon. The course includes: 1. Introduction to Linguistics 2. The five levels of linguistic analysis (Morphology, Phonetics-Phonology, Syntax, Semantics, Pragmatics) 3. Relative linguistic fields: Historical Linguistics, Sociolinguistics, Argumentation, Rhetoric, History of Linguistics, Psycholinguistics 4. How to conduct research in applied linguistics 5. Applied linguistics: Teaching a language
