A foreign language opens up new perspectives and enables you to understand other people and get to know their culture more intimately. Learning languages also promotes creativity. Once you have mastered the necessary thought patterns when learning a language, the whole thing isn't that difficult! I know this from my own experience, because I now speak five languages fluently and have a lot of fun both learning and teaching. The same applies to German as a school subject.
