My lessons are heavily tailored to the needs and interests of my students, whether that be learning to write/edit/improve lyrics and melodies, a crash course in music theory, putting chord progressions together, finishing songs and developing productive routines, or adding some accountability and objective feedback to your process. Working as a professional songwriter and studying MA Songwriting has equipped me with a wealth of tools to sharpen the technical craft of a song and to harness the creative process to bring the best out of other songwriters. In lessons, I draw from this to help new writers develop their own unique voices. I'm a big believer in constantly writing and sharing so I like to set weekly briefs to encourage you to write in new ways and then give detailed and constructive feedback that will help you grow. I know from experience that sharing new songs can be unnerving so I take a lot of care helping people overcome this hurdle. Outside of classes, I'm open to discuss songs, technique, career goals, co-writing, learning resources, and other topics that will help you develop as a songwriter. I'm a professional songwriter with over nine years writing experience and countless co-writes in the tank. I regularly write with artists in the UK, around Europe, and in the US and have recently started taking my first production clients. As a writer, I'm primarily concerned by the lyric, form and structure side of writing but, with guitar as my main instrument, also usually write the majority of the musical elements. My specialities are in alt-pop, indie-rock, acoustic pop, and folk but also have experience in RnB and country.

I have 13 years' experience teaching music theory and composition. I'm a pianist and composer, with a thorough understanding of all instruments. The guitar has to be one of the most ubiquitous, played and taught instruments everywhere in the world for the last 4 decades. It is a staple of the sound of most popular genres. From Pop singers like Taylor Swift and Madonna, or Ed Sheeran, to bands like Coldplay, Metallica, AC/DC, Aerosmith, Guns N'Roses, Led Zeppelin or even Jazz groups, they all had at least one guitarist who once had to learn enough guitar to become relevant in music. That doesn't mean it's easy to learn. In fact, it's one of the most difficult ones. But how do you go about it then? Most of them will tell you (and rightfully so) they learnt on their own and that it's the best way. I agree. To a certain extent. There's a lot of ways in which a teacher can elicit the right questions and answers from the student her/him self. And when it becomes hard enough that you don’t believe it’s possible to go any further, then again there is the teacher, with answers, and an experienced eye and ear, to guide you through your journey until you decide you’re ready.
